Dr. Jean Mitewu, a dedicated Medical Doctor based in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, hails from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a French-speaking country.
His passion for medicine is matched only by his enthusiasm for learning and teaching languages.
Jean's linguistic journey includes proficiency in seven languages, six of which he speaks fluently.
Before moving to South Africa in 2007, Jean was already fluent in five languages, including French and English.
Upon his arrival, he embraced the challenge of learning isiZulu and isiXhosa, with his only prior exposure to isiZulu being the word "Yebo" from Vodacom advertisements in the DRC.
Initially relying on interpreters to communicate with his Zulu-speaking patients, Jean found the experience lacking depth and termed it a "Secondhand Consultation."
Recognizing the need for direct communication to truly connect with his patients, he embarked on a journey to learn isiZulu. Within just eight months, he was conducting full consultations in isiZulu without the need for translators, greatly enhancing his patient interactions.
Through his extensive experience in language acquisition, Jean developed and refined effective methods and techniques to help others achieve conversational fluency in any language more quickly.
Identifying a common struggle among healthcare professionals to communicate with Zulu-speaking patients, he created online Zulu courses and coaching programs tailored specifically for healthcare professionals. His approach has empowered over 150 of these professionals to speak and understand Zulu in as little as three months.
Driven by a mission to bridge communication gaps, Jean continues to teach more languages to a broader audience, employing his unique and proven methods.
